Manger, Talent

As Talent Manager, you will partner with our COO and Director of Operations to recruit and cultivate the best designers to work on some of the most socially impactful projects in the world. As Talent Manager, you will curate every stage of an MASS team member’s life cycle. You will help define the MASS recruiting strategy and drive the hiring process across multiple teams; you will help implement a high-touch onboarding process that makes every new hire feel like a celebrity on their first day; and you will ensure MASS is a responsive and inspiring place to work, from championing our Culture Code to organizing events across our offices in Boston and Kigali, Rwanda. You will contribute to thought leadership informing people strategy at MASS, build project teams, and be a driver behind the growth and management of the Operations Team. A passion for organizational theory and people-related strategy is crucial. The ideal candidate is a systems-thinker who is relentless about the details. You are deeply empathetic, and passionate about nurturing a community of top designers. You’re an incredible performer, but also humble and a joy to work with and you can expect the same of your colleagues at MASS. You have 3 or more years of experience in people operations at another fast-paced start-up, and you’re fired up by the opportunity to build a company with lasting social impact, one inspiring colleague at a time.

You are an experienced designer, contractor, engineer, researcher, public health specialist, design thinker, industrial designer or otherwise believe you would bring a unique perspective to our work. Our internships give you the opportunity to engage with a wide range of projects using MASS’s approach to design for impact while gaining experience in fields that range from policy research to construction.We have four different teams you may apply to be a part of which include design, research, development and operations. When applying you may indicate which position you would prefer, but you will be considered for all four intern position at MASS.

We invite highly qualified and motivated candidates to join our Boston-based research team in applying rigorous and creative impact evaluation to design projects in resource-limited and undeserved communities around the world. Working with MASS, your primary role will be to identify, organize, and deploy impact assessment across scales, regions, and domains using a variety of metrics and indicators. To support a range of impact evaluation efforts in collaboration with the MASS team and an extended network of global partners, typical assessment efforts will include areas of impact such as health, education, economic, and social well-being. Beyond impact assessment, you will have opportunities to work on a range of projects across MASS’s offices and collaborate with a diverse team of clients, collaborators, and partners throughout the world. You will also be asked to contribute to research related to healthcare industry design trends as well as support on-going research development and proposal-writing work.


Who were looking for:

The ideal candidate will possess the critical thinking abilities to make observations across scales and disciplines, the knowledge to recognize relationships and deploy a range of methods to understand project impact, the confidence to invent new methods when alternatives are found lacking, and the skills to communicate new tools and findings to a diverse audience. To do this, you must have an understanding of general research methods; be knowledgeable and empathetic; be eager to expand a specific area of expertise and apply it to other areas of our work; and be able to contextualize specific data across a range of applications to meet a variety of needs.

What we’re looking for:

  • Self-motivated, self-directed work ethic.
  • Curiosity and a drive to expand skills and knowledge beyond the scope of perceived field.
  • Attention to detail when conducting research and development-related administrative tasks.
  • A Bachelors or Masters degree with a concentration area in economics, social sciences, health, education, policy, architecture, design, or any other related field.
  • Interest or experience in conducting research, from identifying research questions, to developing methodologies, to executing research projects, to disseminating findings.
  • Experience in impact evaluation in any related field.
  • A working understanding of externalities and proxy indicators.
  • Interest or experience in working in resource-limited settings both domestically and abroad.
  • Openness to travel to a variety of countries as dictated by project needs.
  • Knowledge of or interest in learning one or more of the following software applications:
  • Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign and Illustrator); Microsoft Office (particularly
  • Word and Excel). Some form of web and/or video editing experience is valuable.
